The objective of this project was to draw a duck in four different styles. First, an encyclopedic drawing that shows what the animal actually looks like. Second, an icon version with the ability to function as a brand logo. Third, a gestural drawing that expresses the character of the animal. Fourth, a transformational drawing that reimagines the animal in a new creative way.
Here we see the original reference photo that I used throughout the project.
Above is the encyclopedic drawing which was made with graphite on a bristol board.
Here the vectorized logo is pictured. This was created first using ink on paper, then recreated in Adobe Illustrator.
This gestural version was done with a large brush and thick ink on paper.
Lastly, the transformation variation was created using pen on paper.
Above are the four final products side-by-side.
Here, some of the process work is shown. First, the transformation; second, the logo design; and third, the gesture drawing. In each, the design that would eventually become the final is also pictured.
