"All in Vein" is sketch 6 of my 365 Days of Art project. I started this project on November 7, 2022 with the goal of sketching 365 pieces until November 7, 2023. A sketch everyday is not required, but creating 365 sketches between those 2 dates is my overall goal.

When I try to think of subjects to draw it usually takes me awhile. Different images flash to and fro and this time vines or flowers being lightly held, even levitating within someone's hand came to mind. My aim was loosely and delicately sketch a hand wrapping itself around this fluid yet stiff entity. While I wanted to attempt a hand study, a visual punch with color and composition was also a huge supporting factor in how to effectively get this mood across.

After wrapping the vines around the hand and fingers, I thought including veins could be an interesting visual. Once I started drawing the veins I knew that connecting them to the vine would a perfect way to merge these two elements.  Instead I changed the color from green to blue so the hand is lightly holding it's own veins.

My main goal was to create a loose and sketchy experimental piece that still had a presence to it. The color gives the presence along with the subject matter, but the lines and brushes used makes it relatable and tender. I have always preferred the line work of sketches than in finished pieces, so this was an incredibly fun piece to try it out and have fun with.
