I don’t have a lot of material to pull from.  The only 100% optimistic Sci-Fi that I’ve could think of is Star Trek. I widened what I was thinking of by pulling in the shiny happy parts from work like Elysium. Not optimistic, but clean as opposed to gritty. 

 

So I started with the original:

A good deal of my design ideas really came from Apple. So I started with a brushed aluminum background.

Really looks good, so I moved on to make the text 3d, like extruded plastic. 

 

So far so good, but I feel like the text should reverse with the logo.  To make those letter the color portion of the design.

Finally I got rid of the compass points, and plasticized the rest of the text.

Minimal, clean, but still clearly the same idea as the original.  This is my favorite, and the solution that really accomplishes what I was trying to do.
