Public Portrait Project No.1

During a First Friday Art Walk, the public was invited to participate in this Public Portrait Project as part of the Who Are We? show at the tbd Loft Gallery. The goal of this project was to create an opportunity for anyone and everyone to be an artists on this evening, rather than just be viewing work by artists. I also hoped that this experience would be a celebration of how we see ourselves as individuals and as members of our complex community. This surpise workshop/installation was a fun experience for many attendees of the Who Are We? art show.

Artgoers began by tracing each other on paper. Next, the participants would pick up a brush, and working with black acrylic paint begin to render their portrait—by ONLY painting words and phrases. An interesting experience in left brain / right brain creative process.
