Hewlett-Packard Positioned to Become a Major Competitor

An accomplished business professional in Silicon Valley, Diane Kaern has held a variety of positions, including serving as a finance manager and planning and reporting manager for Siemens. Most recently, Diane Kaern worked for Hewlett-Packard as a sales compensation analytics and reporting manager.

In recent years, Hewlett-Packard has stepped up as a major threat to Microsoft, America’s largest provider of operating system software. Many of Hewlett-Packard’s new initiatives involve a growing partnership with Google, which could place the company in a position to be a major competitor for Microsoft. Recently, Hewlett-Packard announced plans to bring back Windows 7 PCs. Although a small number of Windows 7 PCs are currently on the market, the promotion increases that number and decreases the number of people who switch to Windows 8.

Additionally, Hewlett-Packard embraces Google’s Chrome OS and has released three Chromebooks. The company also produces Android-powered PCs. Hewlett-Packard’s recent initiatives also include developing two smartphones powered by Android and entering the mobile phone market in India. The company recently announced its plan to unveil a new line of voice tablets to be launched exclusively in India. These tablets feature six-inch and seven-inch screens, Android operating systems, and multitasking and entertainment capabilities.
