The Last king of Skhot'land

"Izikhotane" ( prounounced "easy-co-ta-nay" ) looseley translated into "dissing each other", is a subculture that has griped a few young people in South Africa. The people wear expensive branded clothing and are nototious for burning these very same articles. They are street performers who have gathering at local parks and "battle" or "diss" each other over who has the most expensive clothing. Some say it's a symbolism of freedom, but the youths involved are usually high school pupils who are living below the poverty line. The youths compete to out-perform and "out-swag" the other Skhotane.

Bra Okapi, the last king of Skhotland is a person who is a product of his environment. Alot of people lead lifestyles their cannot afford. Bra okapi is a grown man who has adopted this new fad. He represents the influence this fad is having on society and how fast it is spreading amongst the youth as most people live below the poverty line. The young Skhotanes may not see this as a fad and may grow into a Bra Okapi in the future- a grown man who looks good in public but doesnt know when his next meal might come. Skhotanes are famous for pouring custard onto the floor and sometimes dancing and performing around the "spillage". The point of being a Skhotane is to outdress out perform everyone that sees you.

Bra Okapi lives in an era where the Skohtanes came and went . He still holding on to his youth and since he is the last of a dying breed, everything he does has to be epic. He is a Zulu man. The Zulu people are known to be very proud of their heritage. Bra Okapi is stuck between his culture and his subculture. The stick he is holding is called a "okapi' or "knobkerrie". The Nisaan 1400 is a famous vehicle amongst South African people, alot of farmers and families have relied on this small but powerful "bakkie" (pickup truck). The wheels are missing- they may have been stolen or he is getting new ones installed, bigger rims. He lives such a flashy lifestyle that even his car is sitting on Ultramel custard boxes instead of bricks. There is no place like Grime Town.
