Take a step into a meat lover’s heaven. The Butcher Man is certainly not your ordinary butchery. Gerald and Mimi Winkler make up the passionate husband and wife team who opened this impressive boutique butchery in July 2013. Situated on the bustling Green Point strip, it’s striking and trendy exterior fits in perfectly. The branding is spot-on with a simple, yet bold, logo and a slogan that reads ‘The Butcher Man – a cut above the rest’.

Inside, is a whole world dedicated to meat – chic and beautifully laid out with such attention to detail. The aromas will instantly make your stomach grumble and the gleaming-glass, deli counter displays an abundance of juicy meats awaiting your choice. The Butcher man only uses the finest primal cuts of meat, ensuring the very best quality and taste.  Select your meat and watch them carve, mince or ‘French’ it in front of you.
In a hurry? Find lamb chops, spatchcock chickens and schnitzels on the shelves, pre-packed for convenience. You can also ask them to cook your chosen piece of meat to your liking and your dinner will be sorted.  They even have a range of speciality meats for the more adventurous carnivores – rabbit, quail, and even, crocodile are available.

The Butcher Man prides itself in being the best butchery that Cape Town has to offer. With superb quality meat, what would this top-class butchery be without expert butchers? We were lucky enough to see one of The Butcher Man’s master butchers in action, meticulously cutting a piece of meat. Mick and Peter, who are originally from the United Kingdom, have mastered the art of butchery and with over 50 years experience, you know you’ll be getting excellent quality cuts of meat with them behind the cleaver.

Superior meats aside, you can find many meat related products from braai aprons, butcher clogs and ‘The Butcher Man’ branded t-shirts, to artisanal spices and marinades plus a biltong bar packed with unusual and exciting flavours like kudu droëwors and chicken chutney. Take a load off in the in-store eating area where you can tuck into their ‘now famous’ 100% pure beef burger (R42) or a hot beef on rye (R58) both of which are stylishly served on a wooden board with homemade pickled cucumbers and mustard.

With National Braai Day coming up, you’ll want to stock up with the best and The Butcher Man is exactly that. But be warned, you may never want to leave!
