Devil's Peak Tap Room | Crush! Issue 35

DEVIL'S PEAK TAP ROOM

You will come across the Devil’s Peak Brewing Company nestled in an old factory building in the heart of Salt River. This popular brewery not only brings you fantastic craft beer but is also now home to a very unique eatery. The Taproom is the latest craft beer restaurant to hit the Cape Town scene, and unlike other pubs, this one has the added bonus of a fully functional brewery at the back. If you appreciate the art of craft beer and enjoy good food, then The Taproom is for you.

The comfy and cosy interior has an old school, chic feel with floor to ceiling windows which reveal a breathtaking view of Devil’s Peak. Big leather sofas, vintage paintings and old books are dotted throughout the room – it’s one of those places where you instantly want to kick off your shoes and enjoy a thirst-quenching ale or two.

What would a pub be without some good, old pub fare? The Taproom serves up scrumptious food which pairs perfectly with the range of Devil’s Peak Brewing Company beers. The menu boasts something for everyone – it’s pub grub with a refined twist. The ingredients are all seasonal and sourced locally, which means that you will get the very best quality. David Walker, the resident Chef, might be new on the restaurant scene but he certainly knows what he’s doing  – expect dishes such as Gorgonzola, Pear and Pecan Salad, Saison Fish and Chips, Pulled Pork Sandwich or Prawn Pasta. Alternatively, you can start the beer drinking a little earlier and pair it with a brunch of poached eggs or some blueberry crumpets with honey, bacon and cream.

When you visit a brewery, you of course, want to taste some of the refreshing, golden nectar. At The Taproom, not only can you sample the conventional DPBC products, but their eight line u-bar offers you the opportunity to taste beverages that are exclusive to the restaurant. Take the Saison Vannie Hout for example – a brett-infused, barrel-aged, farmhouse ale served in a 750ml bottle. Far from your average quart, it’s the perfect drink to be shared with a group of friends.

Whether it’s for a mid-week lunch, or a day of rugby watching, you’ll find The Taproom buzzing with locals and visitors. Visitors can sip on beer, tuck in to some great food and appreciate the fine work of the brew masters while enjoying the spectacular view of Devil’s Peak. It’s not just a pub, it’s an experience.
