Direct, intense eye contact breaks through the smooth, cold layer of ice. The gaze penetrates into the depths, into the heart of the soul, and doesn't just scratch the surface. The ice is melting and cracking. Intimacy arises where previously one might have looked the other way and stared into emptiness.
