For Colored Girls, based on the landmark 1975 stage play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf, depicts the interconnected lives of nine women, exploring their personal struggles with love, abandonment, rape, infidelity and abortion.

To promote the film's release Lionsgate Marketing Chief Tim Palen — an accomplished photographer — created eight “Living Portraits”, evoking the poetry of Ntozake Shange‘s original stage play and featuring actresses Janet Jackson, Thandie Newton, Kerry Washington, Loretta Devine, Whoopi Goldberg, Anika Noni Rose, Phylicia Rashad and Tessa Thompson as their characters in the film. The talking photos were on display at the Lehman Maupin gallery in New York October 24th-27th.

For critics, pundits, and audiences that weren't able to attend the live viewing, we were asked to create a real museum in virtual space that showcased the portraits and allowed visitors to grab and share them as embeddable movie posters.
