Below is the actual mock up of the cut-away version of the cover built to pitch the concept to the business team. While they were excited about the high-end feel and the fact that it reveals a public sector employee in street clothes and in service uniform, the piece needed to relate to a diverse market audience, and the decision was made to proceed with a more abstract cover concept.

ALTERNATE COVER CONCEPTS
SLIDER SHELL CONCEPT

This cover of this concept would have featured a slider in the center spread that could be used to calculate paycheck impact and returns on investment with various contribution amounts. The brochure itself would be held together by the slider itself — not through binding. However, through testing it was realized that the slider information could be a distraction from the main goal of the piece.

This piece went through several rounds of testing before production. Many insights were gained through this process, helping to ensure the success achieved by the piece in the end. Below is the initial test draft.
