DrWhy.AI is a collection of tools for visual exploration, explanation and debugging of Machine Learning models. It involves a set of R packages, for which we designed data visualization style guidelines – you can see them in DrWhy Explainers case study. Continuing my collaboration with MI2Datalab, I created a visual identity for DrWhy.AI universe.
The project included designing not only the logo for the DrWhy.AI project, but also a set of "sub-brand" logos for all the different tools within the collection.
As the target group of the project are developers and the main communication channel is github and industry conferences, the logos would be displayed on hex stickers – a conventional and well known form of R packages' icons. For this reason, I decided not to treat the shape of the sticker as a limitation, but as a starting point for the construction of the logo.
Another challenge was that the list of packages is not exhaustive. New ones are constantly being created by lab members; some of them might have a short life span – but still need a distinctive logo. All the icons should also be perceived as parts of the same family. Having these factors in mind, I proposed to create a dynamic identity inspired by generative art, which could be expanded when the new packages appear.
The isometric grid enables building multiple icon versions within the shape of the main DrWhy.AI logo. Following this framework, I created a sample set of isometric logos for the existing packages, that is easy to expand further by lab members.
In order to introduce some diversity within numerous stickers, I introduced four different color schemes, that are derived from the sequencial color palette we designed for DrWhy charts.
