In 2013 I pitched this logo with branding guidelines to the Cycle Hub CIC (Community Interest Company), a Grimsby-based cycle hire company. It was successfully chosen, and I am currently developing a website for the company.
I designed the logo with the company name and location in mind: the points of the hexagon represent different transport methods (cycle, foot, car, train, bus and plane) around the circle. The Cycle Hub is located next to the train station, near a taxi rank, and within walking distance of town, and I wanted to make the subtle connection there. The hexagon is also suggestive of a nut/bolt. The cycle chain adds a little visual interest to an otherwise plain design.
I wanted to continue the hexagon motif within the text of the logo. I utilised negative space to create the 'H' of the hub, which also creates two arrows - further suggesting motion and travel.
