COLOURS OF ZEN - A RESIST DYED HOME COLLECTION

In this project the possibilities of surface design that would have physiological, emotional and mental healing effects were explored. The aim of the project was to create a home space that would give the user a visual and dogmatic experience of Zen living.
The initial research and data collection were based on how arts/crafts and certain aesthetics/practices can have soothing/healing effects.
Looking into ideologies/concepts that best suit the current context, where people are having open conversations about mental/emotional stability, led to research on meditative practices and principles from various cultures and traditions that would help an individual lead a healthy balanced lifestyle. The ideology of Zen, which is a cumulative, neutral and wholesome expression, was chosen as the central theme of the project because of how personally relatable it was and how it seemed to be understandable and expressible efficiently through collections.
Zen is a minimalistic meditative Japanese way of living. The Zen lifestyle talks about certain intuitive wisdom within each of us and how that hints at our naturally harmonious and interconnected nature. So the project was worked around and the project briefs were defined around the concept of Zen living.

SURFACE DEVELOPMENT
The home collection consists of 6 cushion covers (a couch set).  The collection is visually and dogmatically inspired by Zen. The collection was hand resisted and hand-dyed .The compositions and sketches were inspired from the general theme of the project - nature, texture with Wabi-Sabi aesthetics.
