The Climbing of Steve

"Bouldering: A form of rock climbing which takes place on boulders and other small rock formations, usually measuring less than 20 feet from ground to top and with only the protection of crash pads in the event of falls."
The Climbing of Steve was a commission illustration done for friend and local climber. The piece was set up in three areas to embody the bouldering experience. 1) The location, exemplified as the peak of a mountain at the top. 2) The Approach, illustrated as the climbers hiking on the hillside and the anticipation of reaching the destination. 3) The act of climbing, illustrated as our subject ascending one of the local gems in bouldering.
The illustration was done at a size of 8x11 inches using a combination of ink and watercolor.
