This painting named Such A Lady is a painting I created with intention and is now sold to an interested buyer. I intentionally wanted to recreate it using a different type medium and media in which to design it on. The original drawing was done in pencil, and I used watercolor pencil as well to color it. This different medium was painted in acrylic on a larger size than the original. The original drawing was done on 9x12 sketch paper, and the recreation was painted on an 16x20 canvas. I did draw my sold painting in watercolor pencil however the painting was done in acrylic. You may not think this is a different medium but using watercolor pencil is basically like drawing with a pencil. When using acrylic, even though the base in which to thin it out is water, the technique in which to apply is by using paintbrushes and that became a challenge.
I wanted to challenge myself because I find it difficult to recreate a drawing or a painting the same exact way. When I recreated this piece, I made sure I drew the woman proportionately correct. I used very small brushes and painted the tone of the woman in stages to give her more of a 3-dimensional look. I did not want her looking flat, or to blend in with the background. I intentionally created the background in horizontal strokes to lengthen her and contrast the vertical in her leg and the vertical of the plush carpet that I added to the piece. I also wanted the colors in the piece to contrast and flow together. One wouldn’t think to design these colors together in a way that I did, but when I completed the piece, I was satisfied with how it turned out.
