Designed by MSA and constructed by Collaborative Structures Ltd., the project included work on the museum, and on the adjacent Pirie House - a 138 year old home of heritage value, purchased by the Museum 40 years ago.

MSA principal and Project Manager Drew Hauser indicates that combining the two buildings actually provided the biggest challenge in the accessibility solution. “By creating a new main and accessible entrance we were able to integrate the two buildings and add an elevator feature.” The idea was to create a design that would reflect the history of the area and add in a subtle way to the museum. MSI lent to the design of the interior flooring, windows and millwork; also working together with the Project Architect to create an intimate relationship between the two buildings.

What makes this project especially important is that it establishes a sound design, master planning and guidance for an accessible privately funded museum.  By resolving the entry through a modern recessed pavilion the existing Pirie House and Museum became integrated and connected via landscape and architecture.
