Coronavirus Variants Striking the United States

An Oklahoma City, OK resident, William D. Jones earned his MD from Brown University. William D. Jones is a physician serving patients in Oklahoma. He has also contributed to the fight to end the pandemic caused by coronavirus.

After a steady decline at the beginning of 2021, the pandemic struck again at the end of March as there were more than 65,000 new positive coronavirus cases in the United States. The positive cases increased by 11 percent from the previous two weeks.

Experts said that it is due to the arrival of new coronavirus variants, which increase the number of positive cases, hospitalization, and deaths throughout the country. In March 2021, more than 30 states were infected with new variants and tested positivity in more than 38. There were also more than 15 states that provided hospitalizations to people affected by the virus.

Doctors and healthcare professionals suggested that the administration of vaccines could decrease positivity and risk of transmission as two people who get vaccinated can stay close to each other and that the chances of them transmitting the virus are very low.
