Areas of focus include degraded roads and campgrounds, eroded trails, and basic sewage and electrical infrastructure.

In Washington State, a $2.8 million GAO project centers on improving facilities at the Ohanapecosh campground at Mount Rainier National Park. This popular destination attracts 100,000 visitors each year. In addition to the picnic table and fire grate repairs, the project involves grading campsites and putting accessibility features for those with disabilities. Other large-scale projects focus on the Moraine Park Campground at Rocky Mountain National Park and the Tuolumne Meadows Campground at Yosemite National Park.
