The Flower was a project made during a weeklong class in which I decided to work in soft lighting for a desk setup. Home offices often have desk lamps to shine down on the surface for the user, but the harsh light from a desk lamp makes the entire setting feel less welcoming than soft warm lighting would. Thus the Flower was designed to bounce light around the room and filter it through a paper shade rather than directly onto the desk. This is perfect for work on a computer where you don't need bright light to keep working, and the aesthetics of the overlay's light pattern makes for a beautiful office decoration.
The design itself was created using Rhino3D, and then rendered in Keyshot. The base is oak, with a copper pipe center holding up a paper shade with nesting paper patters. The shade both creates the desired cone shape, and adding an appealing pattern of overlaps using the light that goes through the paper.
