Uruguay 1996 /2013

This story began in 1996 when I went to Montevideo in Uruguay, commissioned by
Goëthe Institut Munich, to make a photographic reportage on the artistic work of
Johannes Pfeiffer and Eduardo Cardoso realized under the Title : "Los misterios
se dan en la Estación Central de Ferrocarriles..."
Artistic director of the event was Mrs. Dorothée Bauerle-Wilert on the project by the Goethe-Institut in Montevideo.
I stopped in Montevideo for five weeks and in the first ten days I reported the
works of the above artists with a lot of snapshots for the catalog and the
opening ceremony.
After that I was almost one month free. I decided therefore to meet the Italian
emigrants Association and other institutions linked to the Italians and to
document their activities. I succeeded only in part to contact the various
Associations, some of them had hundreds of associates, others only few dozen who
often met only once a year.
Fortunately I met various immigrants arrived in Uruguay after the World War II
, I visited their houses and followed them during their activities speaking about their lives.
One of them, Mr. Giovanni Malan, was the President of the "Familia Piemontesa"
originating from the Valleys of Pellice river in Piedmont , of Waldensian faith.
Through him I discovered the large Waldensian communities in Uruguay, their history
in the old centuries in Italy, and more recently (by the end of the nineteenth
century) in Uruguay.
In May 2013 I returned to Colonia Valdense to meet again people knew in 1996 ,
their children and grandchildren, and to re-visit places where I stayed
The photographs made in 1996 are in negative black and white, those of May of this
year are in digital.
I divided this work into chapters because the pictures are many and I wanted to have
them well showed .
