The State of Michigan - Design System

I had the honor of being hired to create a design system for The State of Michigan. I believe the system we could land on will be instrumental for The State to hit its long-term business goals. In the end, this design system will help more than 8 million Michigan residents have a better experience with the State's services.
My role was to lead the UI design, but I also worked as a design director to cultivate the future vision of this design system. Working with other director-level resources, as well as our vendor Rightpoint (DEV), I was hands-on in creating new UI patterns, consulting on UX, and trying my best to lead The State of Michigan to a more "design first" approach.
You will see a lot of FPO assets in this system and that's because, by default, this design system is set up to be a blank slate -- a system where State of Michigan content authors could begin building better websites for their customers that include increased ADA, brand alignment, and a major increase in user experience.
The challenges of this project showed themselves in many instances, but this project is something I am very proud of. Applying my ability for the greater good of humanity vs. selling a product is something that has been very rewarding.
