Inspired by a true story, SKINDEEP is an animated short film contextualized by the racism present in the history of the United States. The film portrays the drama in the lives of those suffering from ethnic and racial PTSD, an open and unhealed wound that triggers trauma inflicted over generations.
For the conception of this project, the creative direction (which includes The Youth, Yuca Duo, Edi and Pedro, Pastel & Besouro) has taken some important decisions to make this project not only relevant to the story but also to the process of production. The water has a strong symbolic appeal to portray the traumatic moments in this film. Following this premise, the film was hand-painted using watercolor, two thousand frames. After shooting all the watercolor works and editing every frame one after the other, it was projected and shot through an aquarium using the water as an analog effect on the movie during meaningful moments of the narrative.
