Our 100% student-run Emory University organization is proud to present 11 original TEDx talks by professionals, change-makers, thought leaders, and even two Emory students!

Simplexity is designed to demonstrate simplicity in a seemingly complex world & uncover the hidden complexity of life's most simple things.

At this unique moment in history, it is more vital than ever to highlight how each and every facet of each and every career, passion, and problem present in our world today has hidden complexities lying below the surface. Our speakers will challenge you to find simplicity amongst complexity, complexity amongst simplicity, and everything in between.

Our live virtual event on April 17th will feature our recorded TEDx talks interlaced by interactive speaker Q&A, giveaways, and special performances by Emory students and performance groups! This is a virtual event you will not want to miss.

THE COLORING BOOK IDEA

What better way to represent simplicity in complexity than to highlight Rube Goldberg Machines! Their exact purpose is to complete a simple task in the most complex way possible. I embraced this idea of complexity to perform a simple task when creating this coloring book page/event lineup that we sent by physical mail along with packs of crayons to registered attendees for Simplexity. This idea was twofold: engage our audience through a highly conceptual, clever, and fun activity but also give each recipient a chance to make the conference their own by using their own colors and designs to make Simplexity their own. Updates of fully colored pages to come!!
FILMING DAY!
When you run an organization that is usually completely centered around a huge main conference, your operations and production become a bigger challenge than you could have expected. From budget cuts to restrictions on gathering more than 9 people in a room, figuring out how to present incredible ideas worth spreading while maintaining safety was an enormous feat. This is how we solved it:

1. Renting a professional film studio with a huge white cyc in Atlanta- this gave a brand new look to our TEDx talks and gave them an almost documentary-type feel.
2. Increasing our social media outreach and communication through a 300% budget increase to social media instead of in-person costs such as catering and ticketing.
3. Allocate resources to the most dynamic and inviting live event video conferencing platform we could find: BigMarker.
4. Invite speakers from across the country instead of having a focus on Atlanta and film around their needs, sending red carpets, and curating talks that would best engage our audience that suddenly no longer had to focus strictly on the Emory community. This was a conference for everyone, everywhere.
