In order not to grope in the dark, people used various portable lights, including chamber chandeliers, for centuries before the age of electricity. They were important companions on which their users depended. In the same way, these candlesticks needed careful handling and protection from the elements so that they did not go out unintentionally. Man and product were thus dependent on each other and entered into a friendly bond. I interpreted this feeling of dependence on each other in a new modern way, in my lamp amica.

amica has an appealing way of being worn. By touching and grasping the curved handle, it begins to glow for the duration of the touch. This achieves the described feeling of belonging between man and product. Both are dependent on each other's touch. Its interesting wearing sensation between balancing and walking movement allows the user to perceive the luminaire more consciously and appeals to him more emotionally.

It is not only a companion for dark places, but also a usable working light that can be switched on permanently by a small push switch in the base. Its head can be swivelled by 180° degrees, allowing the light to be specifically adjusted and dimmed through a translucent cover. As an all-round light, it responds to the individual needs of the user.

The luminaire is designed in such a way that its individual parts are detachable. No adhesive seals the components or make recycling difficult after a product's lifetime. In case of complications with the electronics, the base cover can be removed with a slotted screwdriver. The base is held in place by magnets and provides its own comfortable counterweight to the head, which is important for balancing the carrying light.

The amica is charged via a Micro USB-C connection, which will replace most connections in the future. The light will be even more flexible and mobile in charging, as many people already have a USB-C charging cable through their mobile phone and can therefore be charged away from home and without their own cable in their luggage.
