80 Years of METROGIPROTRANS. Idea. Time. Life. | Jubilee edition for «Metrogiprotrans», the only engineering company within the territory of the former USSR, that contains all the knowledge about the Metro. What is the book about? Communication as connexity, as engineering, as an idea, as a construction — that is the greatness of the basis put in «Metrogiprotrans». That is what we wanted to mirror solving the number of tasks on the occasion of the Jubilee. It is about a connection that goes through time. Connection of the book, as a form of communication, and the event that comes and goes, but the book leaves a mark in space and time. Our top priority was to create a book people would actually read. That problem was solved according to every canon of macrostructure, rhythmics and microstructure. Balance of text and pictures makes the book visually attractive.
A unique «Cbiair Type» job font was specially constructed for the book. The very same «Cbiair Type» font was perfectly integrated into the image of the book and was put in the basis of the identity of the jubilee event for «Metrogiprotrans». Concept of the jubilee book implied development of a theme mostly showing people, digging up stories, portraits, names. Most of them were illustrated as freehand architectural and construction drawings dated from 1933. Inspiring moments of font solution style used for the Metro stations of Moscow and Saint Petersburg, architectural drawings and stamps of modern font trends — that is a compilation that was used to construct the «Cbiair Type» font for the book. The most interesting moments of working on this project were: to find the most important pieces and touch the ground. The context of the book as much as its design won’t lose its significance even after 2013.
