Background
The #SnyderCut was a phenomenon on social media that asked for Warner Bros to release the Director's Cut for the infamous Justice League movie. Zack Snyder, the director, could not complete the movie due to a family tragedy and the studio hired another director to finish the movie. The result was not considered to be a good one.
The belief was that if Zack Snyder had been able to finish the movie as intended, it would have been a much better movie. So fans on social media clamoured for it to be released.

Warner Bros. listened.

As one of the people interested in seeing the original vision as intended, I designed this poster for it.
Process
I sketched out the original idea I had, making sure I took notes because I've learned the hard way that ideas can disappear from your head and sometimes the notes might be more important than the sketch because they give context.
This was particularly challenging to do as I wanted to achieve this collage mashup (using images from the trailer) in the background while maintaining a clear hierarchy. Following the campaign posters for this movie, the theme was black and white images. Forcing myself to follow these constraints, I had to find a way to make it not feel like too much to look at, at once.
And I did. As you would see in the video below, I solved the problem by tweaking brightness levels, adding rim lighting, and funnily enough, adding a texture to further separate the background from the foreground. I also had a priority of making sure Darkseid was distinguished from the background. Aside from him and the Justice League roster, everyone else could be positioned anywhere.
Final Result
Thank you for watching.
