This is story is part of a series of work for Love That Hair salon in Cincinnati, OH. They hit reached their 2 year anniversary in February 2021 I photographed and interviewed each stylist and the owner as they celebrated their journey.
Journey to the Salon
I had just come out of surgery and my friend wanted to get me up and out of the house. She bought tickets to a hair show, and that’s where I saw this distinguished gentleman come in with this young lady. I said ‘Oh my gosh, she is so beautiful, and their hair is so on point!’ So my friend and I decided to sit next to them during the show, and we had a conversation. Katrice (salon owner) told me that she had just opened up a salon about a month or two ago. After some time, I asked her if I could work for her, she said 'No! You’re not gonna work for me, you’re a boss.' I told her I was capable of humbling myself, so she invited me to visit the salon. Here we are today.
Relationships
The atmosphere here is wonderful. Katrice is an executor and I love that. I love sitting under someone like that because I’m an over-thinker and at times hesitate to take that first step, so I like being a part of her team because she gets us going and is a great motivator. Not only is she a great motivator, but you can tell she’s passionate about what she does. So, who wouldn’t want to be part of that team?
I love working with different clients here. I like being able to communicate with them and set an example. It gives me an opportunity to share my motivation with them.
