This is story is part of a series of work for Love That Hair salon in Cincinnati, OH. They hit reached their 2 year anniversary in February 2021 I photographed and interviewed each stylist and the owner as they celebrated their journey.
Introduction to the Salon
Back in the Summer of 2020 I came in for a hair appointment for my Daughter. She was looking to start locs—she actually had an appointment with Latoria. During a very brief conversation with Latoria, she let it out of the bag that I had a cosmetology license and was also an instructor. Katrice just happened to be listening and at that moment she invited me to come on board. It was definitely a faith move for me because I went into education for about a year and thought that was going to be my path. So jumping out here was not originally part of my plan, but I do thank these ladies for pushing me because I love it here.
Salon Environment
I've been here only 6 months but I’m here to stay. Ever since I started coming here, it’s always felt very family-oriented and welcoming. There’s not a lot or riff-raff or distractions. A lot of times, salons get bad reputations for the environments they create. When I came in here I didn’t see those things I’m describing. That was the number one thing that brought me back to this space. Being the type of person I am and thinking about the type of people I want to serve, that was the exact type of atmosphere I needed to be in to thrive. My main thing is that I always want to motivate and promote self-care. Being here gives me a great opportunity to do that.
On the Future
I want to see this place expand. Although we all work in our different areas, we always come together as a team. And together, I would love to see us do more as far as launching product lines, offering classes, and teaching and motivating others to do the same.
