How to become the perfect wife
“So here’s the thing, today I will become a woman, why may you ask? Well, you see, all girls my age are thinking of marriage. “Obsessed” would be the word I would use. I don’t know why they are, but they’ve been preparing since preschool! The worst part of it is that they’re ready. Everyone knows how to cook, how to fold laundry, and how to put a baby to sleep. I don’t,” said Lucy.
Desperately, she asked her mother for help in order to become the perfect wife. Lucy’s mother was overly excited since she never thought this day would come; her little girl would become a capable woman. Lucy didn’t expect much because she only had to follow some simple instructions. Besides, how difficult could it be?
“Lesson one; makeup. No respectable woman can start the day without a full face of makeup on. We start by applying moisturizer that hides the fact I’ve been tired since birth. Step two; foundation, apply this all over your face to hide every normal imperfection that comes with being a human being. Pores, pimples, hair, none of these are acceptable for a woman. Step three; mascara, make your eyes look bigger. After all, the eyes are the doorway to the heart. Finally, the most important step; red lipstick for attractive lips,” said Lucy.
So far, so good, she thought. Yes, her lips were way more overlined than expected and yes her hair looked like a literal birdness, but it was her first time, and she’ll get better with time. The important thing was that by the end of the day, she becomes wife material.
Time to move on to phase two; cleaning. It is an important key to become a great wife. Just picture this; your husband gets home from work along with an unexpected visitor! What are they going to say; “Well, Bill I see your wife needs more time to clean up. She could learn from my Rosie” or “Wow Bill! Look, I can see my reflection on the table! Rosie sure can learn from Lucy." The strategy is simple: everything needs to be spotless.
“Step one; making the bed. This should be easy. I mean, it's a bed, we sleep on it, every night. I can do this, sure I can. Well, I mean possibly, maybe?” said Lucy.
So she started making the bed, but the sheets didn’t seem to cooperate with her. Indeed, the sides didn’t stay onto the matters. Frustrated because she tried, she did, but this was simply witchcraft!
The physics of it all was impossible to understand! Time to leave it alone, Lucy’s dignity couldn’t take it anymore. Step two; the bathroom. Today’s mission is for Lucy to clean every inch of her bathroom by using a toothbrush.
“I don’t understand how in God’s name am I supposed to clean all of this? God find your patience before I lose mine! I’ll die of old age before I finish this! Why, oh why! How will I ever do this and cook a four-course meal!” said Lucy.
Just like the bed, after a few minutes of brushing the floor, Lucy’s dignity couldn’t take it. Brushing the toilet wasn’t for her. She couldn't get over that, and she won't take that abuse! Although she could’ve handled it better, less dramatically, she went on to phase three; baking.
Since the last two phases didn’t go as planned, but no one is born a master either! Lucy decided to bake a cake. It’s easy as wind blows. She just had to mix eggs, flour, butter, and there you go!
So, Lucy started mixing the food and putting it into the oven for 45 minutes. Lucy was anxious, but she had a good feeling since she already could taste her fluffy and moist cake. However, once the cake came out, the consistency was completely liquid.
“That’s it! I give up! I am not cut out to be a housewife, and I do not want to be one. Housewives are wholehearted, and people take it for granted. They clean, they cook, and they put babies to sleep. How?” said Lucy.
