"Essential" is a digital zine I created to air my frustrations about being an essential worker during the COVID-19 pandemic. Inspired by collage aesthetics rooted in both Dada and punk/counterculture movements, I created a narrative using spliced imagery to tell a story of anger and fear that many people who work in the service industry feel during these times. In my zine, I speak to an imaginary person (hence, "you") modeled after some customers I've met in my food service job who refuse to abide by COVID-19 guidelines.
I put the zine together in Indesign in order to use animations, MSOs and hyperlinks to tell my story. I used Photoshop to mask out stock images as well as images I've taken myself. I also used Adobe Premiere to edit a video I created for the zine and to mix sound for one of the spreads
