Congratulations to the winners selected by juror Betz Green:
BEST IN SHOW: 'Conversation' by Brigida Michopulos
Carol Bellet Award: 'Nandi Will Save the World,' by Alena Scogna
Rose Bolef Award: 'The Abysm' by Dyon Swann
Ann Greiner Award: 'Pine Tree I' by Linda Hubbard-Cooke
Donald Robinson Award for watercolor: 'Light Snow Dusting' by Donald Leong

BEST IN SHOW: 'Conversation,' Brigida Michopulos, oil on canvas, poly clay, air dry clay, 21" x 38", not for sale.

Juror's Comments: This intriguing piece is whimsical and smile inducing. The detail is almost beyond belief, as must be the many hours involved in completing this rather large wall sculpture. In person the varied textures must surely compel the viewer to want to touch the surfaces. Although the piece is comprised of many small parts, several areas combine to make satisfying larger shapes. It is interesting to observe how and where the flat background is connected to the three dimensional foreground. It all works to relate a nostalgic, magical tale reminiscent of many of our youthful pasts.
Carol Bellet Award: 'Nandi Will Save the World,' Alena Scogna, acrylic on sanded art board, 20" x 30", not for sale.

Juror's Comments: Incredible energy infuses this painting. It is a strong piece in many ways including its emotional content and relevance, simple composition with large shapes, and use of a vibrant, unexpected color palette. You can hear this little kid singing his heart out, and loudly!
Rose Bolef Award: 'The Abysm,' Dyon Swann, watercolor, ink, Micron pen, gouache and acrylic, 12" x 18", $500.

Juror's Comments: Compelling "S" shaped composition. The variety of mediums are well used to support the imagery and create nuanced textures. The line work is fluid and deftly handled. There is a mystery to this painting that makes the viewer want to know the whole narrative.
Ann Greiner Award: 'Pine Tree 1,' Linda Hubbard-Cooke, pastel, $150.

Juror's Comments: The artist's use of bold color, including lovely deep darks, and bold minimal strokes make this piece able to stand on its own at a great distance, even though it appears to be of modest size.
Donald Robinson Award: 'Light Snow Dusting,' Donald Leong, watercolor on yupo substrate, $200.

Juror's Comments: An economy of strokes, variety of marks, along with a limited color palette were used to create this masterly, minimal piece. The obviously slick white painting surface helps to emphasize the snowy subject matter.
