Re-Engineer (Beta)

Recently I worked on an awards evening calling the show and running playback. An agency was contracted by the client to create the projection content for the evening based off existing branding. I decided to try recreate something similar. I created a polygon for the bottom of the shape, then used Loft nurbs to give it a face, made some cuts with the knife tool and then moved the newly created points up the Y axis to get the pyramids. Finish off the shape by creating some polygons between the necessary points. The edges are a cylinder in a MoGraph cloner set to the object and distributed on the edge.

In my typical style, I went for the long way around to get the textures and lighting. I started with HDRI and sky rigs with layers of noise shades with the desired colour, to which I had some passable results, a frame is included below. Next, I went for specular's, Fresnel's and gradients in the texture, which was a complete flop, and then realised I'd overlooked the obvious - Lights. Faster than you could go a rig 4 lights and put gel in them, I had a result I was happy with. The main texture is a breeze, a 90% transparent slightly reflective surface.

If I had a full weekend, I'd try to work out vibrating the lights to give a bit more movement, but I can't get it to loop nicely. Also the flickering during the rotate, I suspect it has to do with the anti-aliasing... maybe.
Next project maybe…

Frame grab from the original, unfortunately the higher quality version didn't have the coloured reflections. Credit to OnDigital, Auckland NZ.
Sky object with 3 layers of noise textures, almost but just not quite...
Still using the sky texture concept, but using the physical render with some depth of field.
Someone recently upgraded to R14 studio... :-)
