Over the past month or so, I've been experimenting with using excel spreadsheets with variable data, connected to Adobe Photoshop to build quick graphics – that don't look like quick graphics. I decided the best way to launch this in real time, was to live-tweet the 2020 NHL Draft.
I built all the assets, compiled the variable data in Excel and was able to produce a fully team-branded graphic with the player info, draft round and pick, and an auto-generated tweet ready to go with the team-specific hashtags.
I was able to post the image along with the tweet within 20 seconds of the pick happening in real-time.
