Ornithological Study of the Barcelona City
Compilation of the different flags that wave on the balconies of Barcelona, each one explained as a different bird species.
During two years I have been working on this particular ornithological study, which consists of classifying birds as flags flying in the city of Barcelona. It seemed to me a beautiful and poetic way of dealing with this citizen conflict that the city has experienced and at the same time trying to explain the procés from the symbols that people hung on their balconies.
This study is a compendium of the species found in the Barcelona city between 2016 and 2018. Although the appearance of the first species is directly related to the "procés", our ornithological community could not ignore a whole series of species that are born as a response to the symbolic hegemony of the Spain / Catalonia binomial, demonstrating that there is a whole series of "other" identities, which are what define the heterogeneous condition of the urban environment. "
We could say that this book is a satire and at the same time a documentary exercise on these last years, it tries to explain the diversity and plurality of identity of a city and it is also an invitation to look up and see how politics has transformed our urban and social environment.
