Blenders Pride Collection 2020- Graduation Project

This project forms my Graduation Project, which I pursued with the designer label "Anju Modi"- who specializes in Indian ethnic wear and Bollywood costumes.
I worked on this collection under the supervision of an industry mentor and an academic mentor from my college.
I began this project by thorough research on the given theme, using books, museum archives and visual libraries available.
Then came the sourcing part, wherein different materials for surface work and fabrics to be used were sourced.
I collected a huge library of visual research, which was presented to the designer and my mentor after which we selected the ones which matched the designers visualisation of the collection.
I explored and innovated lots of embroidery techniques and artworks, alongside also doodled and decided silhouettes- much of them were variations derived from the designer's signature ones since the Blenders Pride show was to celebrate 15 most iconic Indian designers and their styles.
I also designed the accessories for the show- armlets, belts and bags.
I was also involved in costing and wrapping up of this collection.
I'm grateful to have got this opportunity, which enabled me to get a full hands on experience in all spheres related to designing a collection. I'm thankful to the brand and its authorities for giving me full freedom to take my own call on decision making aspects- which was a great opportunity for me to learn and grow.

Due to the uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, and also the limitations during the lockdown, I had to furnish my own collection at the last moment since the company was closed and I could not get the samples.
So the Project 2 at the end is the one I did on my own, along the lines of the same theme and concept, using the materials I had available at home.
Project 2 is self done during the Covid-19 lockdown period for my final jury presentation.
I have used the materials I had available at home for this project.
It has been created completely from sarees, keeping the 'craft' factor intact, I used woven textiles such as Banarasi Silk, Kora Banarasi, Silk Satin, Silk crepe sarees.
I extracted Dabka embroidery from a saree and placed it over a kurta in the placement desired to add value to the garment and make the range closer to the project I was working on in the industry.
