--- Searching for the plant ‘Sundew’ made the process and outcome of this art project.
The creative non-fiction assignment for the Environmental Humanities course led by Michelle Bastian created space for artistic research into a case study, which was Sundew, a plant living in wetlands. The assignment required readings from a wide gamut of interdisciplinary resources - poetry, biotechnology, philosophy, botany, and social sciences. This mind-map was created to connect ideas from different disciplines and explore the gaps.
The sequel of this research was 1) a creative non-fiction piece that was written from Sundew’s point of view, 2) a multi-media installation summarizing the process for the audience. The second half of this project, inspired by the creative non-fiction, was the act of looking for the plant Sundew in the Scottish peatlands. The creative non-fiction demonstrated the process of a shared life with the Sundew, exploring a new kind of encounter and research approach.
