White Noise - Sculpture, Field Recording

December 2018 - White NoiseSculpture, Field-Recording
Presented at ‘SHIFT’ Group Show
Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation, Scotland
--- A soundscape that was created out of field recordings in Red Moss of Balerno, Scotland. The viewers scanned the QR Code painted on a custom-made table with their devices and listened to the soundscape using the headphones provided.

The Sphagnum moss covered bog is investigated through various recording techniques and the resulting snippets of sound are arranged and mixed together to form an imaginary sonic exploration.
A small part of the landscape consisting of sphagnum moss, layers of peat and broken branches was set alongside a quotation by Rod Giblett:

“The black water of the wetland has become white noise, has become background interference and has been rendered largely invisible.”
