Overlooked - Book

In todays society people often forget about the little things around them, not only things physically small in size but also things that are to many people seemingly insignificant. Every one of these things has been designed for a purpose and society is taking them for granted.

The design of daily used or daily seen things are being taken for granted and are unappreciated. These seemingly insignificant and overlooked designed things need to be celebrated. The aim here is to make people appreciate what is around them, to educate them about the importance of design and to help contextualise the world.
The piece is aimed at people that will go on to appreciate and recognise the beauty of design in the world. Also it is aimed at people that are interested or fascinated by the world and its contents.

For this project I researched the design of everyday objects, commonly used or owned. Design that is being taken for granted and unappreciated. Design that people see as insignificant.
I researched the history of the objects, the concepts and ideas behind them, and how important their design is. I investigated the style and beauty of their design and their balance of form and function.

I researched items that have become necessities to society, things that are used on a daily basis but the design of which has become completely unappreciated. Many people see design as insignificant, but it does play a major role in our lives and this should be celebrated.
