The 2013 El-Hibri Foundation Peace Education Prize

An accomplished entrepreneur and business executive, Fuad El-Hibri has served for the past two years as the executive chairman of Rockville, Maryland’s Emergent BioSolutions Inc. Fuad El-Hibri also heads the El-Hibri Charitable Foundation, a Washington, DC-based nonprofit that furthers the philanthropic heritage of the El-Hibri family. Each year, the organization honors an outstanding scholar, practitioner, or policymaker with its prestigious Peace Education Prize.
 
Since 2007, the El-Hibri Foundation has bestowed the Peace Education Prize upon individuals who have raised public awareness about the constructive effects of peace education, encouraged the general adoption of community peace education programs, and demonstrated the effectiveness of various peace education initiatives and peace-building tools. Past winners include Gene Sharp, Colman McCarthy, and Abdul Aziz Said. The 2013 El-Hibri Foundation Peace Education Prize recipient was Dr. Betty A. Reardon, a founding administrative member of both the International Institute on Peace Education and the Global Campaign for Peace. As part of her award, she received a total cash prize of $20,000. Dr. Reardon previously won the 2010 Sean McBride Peace Prize, conferred by the International Peace Bureau in Geneva, Switzerland.
