A sound Pavillion
This project is the continuation of the "soundspaces" project. Its goal is the research on the spatial qualities of the sound of the city driven by the human perception. The achievement of this goal is being defined by the development of a methodology which starts with the analysis of the sound character of the city, through experimental methods of recordings and editing of sound data, and ends up to a procedure of translation to space. This translation is aiming at the research on the design tools that are going to explore the symbiotic conditions of sound and space. This procedure is searching for geometrical forms that are reduced to a constant dialogue between the perceptual properties of psychoacoustics and the tectonics of an architectural organism whose function is the encapsulation of projections and presentations of the sound of the city. Materials and sound are interacting and redefi ning themselves in a “sound-spatial” game which is underlined by the ethereal character of the human perception.

The next step is a procedure of translation to space which is using dynamic systems and geometrical analyses in order to form an architectural organism whose function is to facilitate an exhibition of the sound of the city. This procedure is dividing the organism into three spaces according to the sound sources (human, machine, nature). The spaces are structured by diff erent materials (concrete, metal, wood respectively). The tectonic manipulation of the materials is based on a combination of rules of acoustics and psychoacoustics and is producing spaces of perceptual description of the complexity of the sound character of the city.
