Pictorialism

I always found  interesting the Pictorial photos,  born in the late nineteenth and the first 20 years of the twentieth century. Often considered only the imitation of photography in painting, I think it was the way to arrive at a concept of modern photography especially thanks to photographers like Steichen.

About Pictorial photos, I am interested in printing techniques, such as prints at bromoil, the Bicromate Gum  and Platinum. Of these images I prefer the mellow and dense  tone  with tonal range from light gray to dark gray.

I worked on some of my own  digital photos trying to re-create certain atmospheres. When looking for photos suitable for this processing I used portraits, landscapes and photographs taken during  life history re-enachtment where subjects reported visually in the past.

These are some images from this experiment; some of them  are processed in a way to get a picture rather evanescent and delicate in other I have accentuated the mess and texture  according to my taste.
A special thanks to the following groups of historical re-enactors:
Milizia Paesana di Grugliasco – Compania S. Sebastiano
Gruppo “Amici a Zuccarello”
111° di Linea
Redcoats and Rebels
