Make of Web Portal compatible with iPhone and iPad using Responsive Design and Mobile Standards.
About the project:
A lot of website portal now are migrating to show its content on mobile devices such an iPhone and iPad. The goal here is to give the best experience to the user so he/she could really enjoy the interaction with the portal in any device.
This is a company wanted to achieve this level of compatibility with their current portal so the user has the same content presented in the best way possible no matter what device he/she is interacting with the portal with. Another challenge was the backend technology of the current portal. This intranet portal is based on IBM WebSphere 7, so I needed to design a new hole interface for mobile devices compatible with this backend technology as well.
The solution:
The solution was implement the approach of responsive design to the current portal. One of the technology considered in this project was Bootstrap, which is one the most used frameworks that implements very well this approach. Also, we research the current intranet portal, discovering problems with displaying information based on technologies and presenting best practices to display all available information on the iPad.
My role:
As lead UX/UI Designer and Developer on the project I identified some problems with displaying information on the iPad and iPhone, propose formats and technologies, designed the user interface, developed the prototype and made recommendations on how to make the portal iPad/iPhone-compatible.
