Marriot - Serendipity
When you find something that you wasn't expecting to find
When you find something in a space that you wasn't expecting to find...you are in a “Serendipity Space”….where everything in anyway can happen. This is the concept of the project based on a transformation of elements in the time and space. These transformable elements are: venetian blind composed of two kind of skin ( wooden slats for semi-private space and inside them curtains for creating private space ). The use of natural material like wood and tissue emphasizes the desire to create welcoming spaces, and at the same time, draw attention to a natural transformation that with the simple gesture of raising and lowering the curtains creates new spaces
Ease in creating the transformation and coherence of materials and design details are behind the idea like in a scenography easy to implement. Some other transformable elements are tables: they go up and down through a telescopic system that allows them to create spaces that go from breakfast to cocktail moment. The project mainly consists of 2 systems: a fixed system and a dynamic and mobile system. The fixed system hosts a buffet that turns into a bar, kitchen, bathrooms and reception…embedded in a sinuous curved consistent wall. The other system is given by compositions of tables linked to a platform necessary for shows and conferences. The tables will be shielded according to the time of day from these tents and wooden slats. Thanks to these transformable elements, at any time of day, you will never have the same configuration: specifically at Breakfast there will be an open configuration, where the space is seen in his totality…without private areas; in other phases of the day the space will change through the use of shielding systems that will create private areas.
