Lyka is based on the traditional Japanese bedroom lantern. It features a handle that allows the lamp to be picked up and moved out of the way during the day. Additionally, to avoid using ugly, hardware store parts, Lyka uses only the high-temp plastic socket for its lightbulb and substitutes the other plastic for a handcrafted wooden socket that fits together without glue or fasteners and sits within the center of the lamp. This socket matches the DNA of the rest of the design much better than any store-bought socket.
Although not a natural material, the Tyvek shade has a very organic appearance when light shines through the fibers, however it remains both water and fire proof and nearly impossible to tear.
