Tea Studies is an exploration of combining classical European modernism with traditional Japanese aesthetics using the common ground of a love for tea. The Japanese ideals of Shibui and Wabi Sabi serve as a balance to classic Modernism and yet integrate beautifully. Also, the simplest, modernist form of the teacup conveniently stacks two trays together.

The tray itself was designed as a solution to many short comings of traditional European saucers which don't leave much room for a used teabag, and whose sloped sides often cause tea spoons to slide to the middle of the plate, requiring them to be picked up in order to return the cup to its original place.
