Intaglio Printmaking & Fine Press Books
In college I worked in the copy center at ACCD. Being penniless, I couldn't afford gifts for my family so I wrote & illustrated stories for them, and "printed" them on the copiers. Later, assisting Tony Zepeda of Gemini in the print studio, I got to use the presses and ended up turning those books into fine press books with zinc plate etchings.
DOMUS LIF†
"Domus Lif" - the story of a small boy's unexpected journey through life was printed using a rather experimental photo film transfer technique and acid/steel wool distressing. I then furthered the distressed look with sloppy monoprint inking.
Copies of these books are in the permanent collections of the Huntington Library, The UCLA/Hammer Museum (Grüenwald Collection), & The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
The Goblin Tarot
The Goblin Tarot was my final project for Art Center. Bound in a soft leather folio and printed on nepalese paper, it's meant to be a book of tarot as written by the goblins & faeries, then translated by some unknown person.
I drew the illustrations in ballpoint pen then etched half them on zinc plates using traditional aquatinting & hardground techniques. The other half were printed via letterpress - as was the goblin typography. 8 copies were printed. It is in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Art in DC.
