Here are various sculptures I have created using my signature Polycaprolactone smart plastic and real eggs.
Most of the eggs pictured are Goose and Rhea.
The Egg is a symbol of life, and I often use it in my work as an expression of something new and curious being created and our desires to understand life. The egg also is a simplistic form which holds many connotations of a beginning and the endless possible forms that can emerge and develop from such a humble starting point.
Corticeps I
Materials: Polycaprolactone, Goose egg / Size (H x W x D): 21 x 10 x 13 cm
A strange but awe inspiring fungus which takes over the bodies and minds of its host and kills it in a bizarre yet enthralling way. The corticeps spores which blossom from the tip of the mature organic form are so virulent that their host species are at serious risk of death if they happen within its vicinity. The benefits of this parasitic life form however ensure that no one species becomes too over numerate within certain ecosystems. This sculpture mimics that nature of a organism sprouting from its host.

Raku Hatchling Vessel

This Vessel was inspired by the traditional Raku Urn’s. The sculpture contains a concealed interior chamber where a tiny scroll is internally suspended. The tradition of Raku calls for a wish of good fortune to be written and placed within the chamber until it comes true.

The concept of capturing and owning time has always fascinated me. In this sculpture the jewelled movements of a watch represent the precious emphasis we lend to Time and our desire to conquer and restrain its fleeting presence.
