De Gobelin
an embroidered newspaper
For my masters graduate project I spent a year researching credibility of news. As an output of this research I created an entire newspaper, with real news, out of embroideries. I decided to do so, to emphasize the briefness of news. What's news today, is history tomorrow, we often forget what happend only a few months ago. I believe we must remember what has happend so we, as a society, can learn from these mistakes and work towards a better future. Making a newspaper out of a non-conventional material also makes it durable. You don't just throw a tapestry in the trash, you do trow a paper newspaper away after reading it. Also: I believe that the embroideries emphasizes the power of news. It makes it trustworthier, while at the same time it makes people wonder whether it's real or not.
All patterns were drawn by hand, and all embroideries are hand embroidered too.
DeGobelin has 18 fully embroidered pages.
