Adobe ReCreate: BANAZAR!

Recreate: Banazar!

As part of a series of work created by having artists re create a drawing or painting they did as a child in the new Adobe Fresco mobile app, I reached back into my sci fi beginnings and took on this poster I created in second grade. I grew up on sci fi, fantasy and Japanese monster movies and tv.
I remembered that this was an assignment to create a chimera in a creative writing class I was in, and that as soon as I read the story I felt connected to myself at that age, full of imagination and stories of mythical creatures. I loved that I referenced things in the story that barely make any sense and seem to hint towards a me that had a lot of crazy ideas rattling around in his head.
I created the entire piece on the iPad in Adobe Fresco and used the vector drawing tools in the app for almost everything. I added a little watercolor wash in the background to tie some colors together but otherwise its all a very detailed vector drawing.
I included a few screen grabs so you could see a bit of the process: I generally start with a sketch in the app using the pencil brush, "ink" the line work with the darkest color on a separate vector layer, and then using more and more layers and layer groups, color in the rest of the piece.
Here is an abbreviated time-lapse just using different stages of the piece.
Adobe is extending the concept and hoping others will try out this fun project that really lets you get back in touch with drawing just for fun remembering a time when imagination ran wild in our heads. Check out the prompt here >
